VK Sasikala, the former aide of J Jayalalithaa was elected as the legislature party head of All India Anna Dravida Munetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Sunday.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam proposed the name of Sasikala as the new AIADMK legislature party head at the ruling party's legislators and party leaders meet and stepped down as the state chief minister clearing a way for 'Chinnamma' to be the new 'Amma'.

"Chinnamma all set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu," AIADMK said in a tweet.

Panneerselvam and other ministers met at Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence where Sasikala continues to live.

Sasikala was named the general secretary of AIADMK soon after Jayalalithaa’s death on December 31.
