Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has leveled serious allegations against the BJP government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Uttar Pradesh.
He said the biggest fraud in the state’s electoral roll has taken place under the guise of SIR with the names of 4.5 crore voters “removed” within a month’s time. He termed it a direct attack on democracy and the Constitution.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Wednesday, Sanjay Singh said in December 2025, the number of voters in the state was stated to be 17 crore, but after the intensive revision, it has come down to 12.55 crore. He questioned where the 4.5 crore voters had gone in a month? He said that the state government’s own employees prepared the voter lists for the local body elections, how can the number suddenly decrease when the same employees conduct the SIR?
The AAP MP alleged that the names were first removed from the voter list, and then Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath talked about increasing 200 votes at every booth. He said there are about 1.77 lakh booths in the state, meaning the BJP is preparing to add about 3.5 crore votes. He claimed that the BJP is conspiring to bring people from other states and register them as voters in Uttar Pradesh through fraudulent means. He alleged that the BJP first provides a list of votes to be removed and later brings a list of votes to be added.
Stating that the Election Commission has categorized 2.17 crore people under the shifted/untraceable category under the SIR, the AAP leader demanded that Form-7 filled in these cases and Form-10 filled by the BLOs should be made public online.
He said that the records of 46 lakh voters the Election Commission claims to be dead and the 25 lakh votes it claims to be duplicate should also be made public, as allegations of showing living people as dead and dead people as alive are surfacing.
He cited the examples of alleged irregularities in districts such as Kannauj, Rampur, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Noida, Bahraich, and Kanpur Dehat, stating that in some places, dozens of voters were registered at a single address. Sanjay Singh demanded a Supreme Court investigation into the entire matter, saying if a judicial inquiry were conducted, many people would go to jail.
Responding to Sanjay Singh’s allegations, BJP state spokesperson Avnish Tyagi said irregularities are being detected in the voter registration process, and that the Election Commission is working with unprecedented seriousness. Names of voters registered in two places and those of fake and deceased voters are being removed. Everyone should cooperate in this process. Sanjay Singh’s claim that the BJP is bringing in voters from other states is not possible in today’s times. Everything is digital now.
