In a shocking incident, sand mafia operatives allegedly rammed a tractor-trolley laden with illegally mined sand into the official vehicle of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) while attempting to flee authorities in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

Fortunately, the SDM escaped unhurt, though the official jeep sustained damage. Police and district administration officials later impounded two overloaded tractor-trolleys transporting illegal sand.

According to the police, SDM Vijay Singh Yadav had signalled the two tractor-trolleys, allegedly belonging to the sand mafia, to stop during a routine check on the Mihona bypass.

The SDM had received complaints regarding illegal sand transportation and reached the bypass to take action. However, when he attempted to stop the vehicles, one of the drivers deliberately rammed the tractor into the SDM’s vehicle in an attempt to evade enforcement.

The official Bolero jeep was damaged in the collision. Immediately after the incident, the SDM contacted the Mihona police station in-charge and summoned additional force.

A joint team of the police and revenue department cordoned off the area and seized both tractor-trolleys. Police have registered a case against the drivers under various sections, including illegal sand transportation, overloading, and damage to government property.

Speaking on the incident, SDM Vijay Singh Yadav said that vehicles involved in illegal sand transportation pose a serious threat to public safety due to high speeds and overloading.

He asserted that no negligence or external pressure would be tolerated in such cases and that strict action against the sand mafia would continue.
