BJP Kerala chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday demanded the immediate disbanding of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) and resignation of state Devaswom minister VN Vasavan, in the light of the alleged gold theft in Sabarimala temple.

Inaugurating a huge protest of the women’s wing of the party, Mahila Morcha, in front of the state secretariat here, against the gold theft in Sabarimala temple, Chandrasekhar said if Vasavan failed to resign over the gold missing row, his party would request the centre for a probe under the CBI or the Enforcement Directorate(ED).

“For them, the properties of holy places like Sabarimala have become objects to loot,” he alleged.

Clashes broke out during the Mahila Morcha’s march to the secretariat against the alleged gold theft in the Sabarimala temple.

After BJP state president Chandrasekhar inaugurated the march, Mahila Morcha activists climbed over the barricade.

Many others sat down on the main road in front of the secretariat, completely blocking both sides of the carriageway, and raised slogans demanding Vasavan’s resignation.

They also tried to scale the secretariat wall. The police fired water cannon twice to disperse the protesters. The protest was led by Morcha’s state president, Navya Haridas.
