The Lok Sabha was disrupted again on Wednesday and was adjourned for the day, within minutes of its meeting at 12 pm.

Protests started as soon as the House met earlier today, and several members rushed near the Speaker’s podium raising slogans and displaying placards following which the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday was adjourned for the day without transacting any business after opposition Congress and parties from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh disrupted proceedings over various issues.

Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House barely four minutes after the start of proceedings, as members of opposition parties staged protests in the Well.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, amid the din, asked the Chair to conduct the discussion on the alleged hiding of facts by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the case of 39 missing Indians in Iraq and the dilution of the SC/ST Act.

Naidu asked Azad to give proper notices for discussion on these issues.

Meanwhile, as the ruckus by TDP members continued, the Congress MPs too, grouped near the Chairman’s podium.

After requesting several times to the agitating members to restore order, Naidu adjourned the House for the day.

No sooner were the listed papers laid on the table, members of Andhra parties including TDP and KVP Ramachandra Rao of the Congress trooped in the Well shouting slogans for special status for the state.

Members of Tamil Nadu parties – DMK and AIADMK – too were in the Well demanding immediate constitution of the Cauvery Water Management Board for division of river water between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Congress members too joined them in the Well, shouting slogans against the government.

This was the 13th consecutive day in the second half of the Budget session that the Rajya Sabha failed to transact any business.

Rajya Sabha hasn’t transacted any substantial business since the Budget session of Parliament resumed on March 5.
