The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday hit back at Congress leader and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge over his remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The BJP asserted that the “nationalist organisation” does not require any “certification” from a “mentally bankrupt” Congress leader.

Yesterday, Kharge in Bengaluru raised questions on RSS’s sources of funding and alleged that the unregistered organisation is involved in “money laundering”. He said, ” More than 2,000 or close to 2,500 organisations are supporting RSS through so-called dakshinas domestically and internationally. And they’ve all been linked to RSS. Where are they getting money to lobby in the US? I am telling that these people are into money laundering.” Targeting RSS over his registration, Kharge questioned if it considered itself “above law or Constitution.”

Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra launched a sharp attack against the Congress leader for questioning RSS funding and registration. Dismissing it as an attempt to grab media attention, Vijayendra said, “At a time when discussions about a potential change of Chief Minister are heating up, and there is an internal tussle between the CM and DYCM for the top post, he chooses to talk about the RSS.”

Calling RSS the world’s largest nationalist organisation, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo said, “It does not need a certificate from people like Priyank Kharge, who is sick and mentally unstable. From the freedom movement to the present, the RSS has played a significant role. Even Indira Gandhi had honoured the RSS.”

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh criticised the Congress party for deliberately trying to defame nationalist forces, India’s brave Army, and India’s institutions under a foreign toolkit.

Targeting Rahul Gandhi, along with “corrupt princes and princesses of the INDIA bloc’, he said, “This act of theirs is to please their foreign masters, their foreign handlers.” He further said that using such language for the RSS reflects his (Kharge’s) mental bankruptcy.”

BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginkai also slammed Kharge and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take action against him. Tenginkai said, “They are trying to bring a hate speech bill in Karnataka. I want to ask CM Siddaramaiah about Priyank Kharge’s daily statements regarding the RSS, but you haven’t said anything about them. We request the Chief Minister to take action on it.”
