Sharad Pawar-led NCP MLA Rohit Pawar demanded a probe into the January 28 air crash which killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, guided by a committee chaired by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

He visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Pune on Friday after VK Singh, a top VSR Ventures air charter company official’s statement was recorded there on Thursday.

Late on Friday evening, after visiting the CID office and presenting documentary evidence to the CID officials, Rohit Pawar was assured by the officials that an FIR will be registered after the final report of the New Delhi-based Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) AAIB is received.

Stepping out of the CID office, he told media persons, “VSR Ventures owner V K Singh was supposedly questioned by the CID for seven to eight hours on Thursday in connection with Ajit Pawar’s plane crash case, but he was given VIP treatment. It seems efforts are being made to save him. The Opposition INDIA bloc must raise the issue of Ajit Pawar’s air crash. A committee of Opposition party leaders should be formed to guide the investigation into Ajit Pawar’s air crash accident and its chairmanship should be given to Rahul Gandhi. I have spoken to people close to Rahul Gandhi regarding this”.
