Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari on Saturday reviewed progress of rehabilitation and infrastructure efforts under the revised Jharia Master Plan during a field visit to Belgaria Township in Dhanbad district.

The updated plan emphasises safe relocation of residents affected by fire and subsidence zones, along with long-term livelihood integration.

Tiwari inspected several key sites across Belgaria Phase 5, including a newly identified plot for an Anganwadi centre, a primary school in Jharia Vihar, the health sub-centre, upgraded middle school at Chhatatand, RSP College, a township pond, designated park sites, and land allocated for a Mega Skill Development Centre and a Multi-Skill Development Institute.

Following the inspection, she said that skill development and employment linkage for residents remain a core government priority, with outcomes expected in the near term.

To improve mobility, the administration is preparing to introduce e-rickshaws for local transport and increase the frequency of buses connecting Belgaria with Dhanbad. Plans for launching electric buses are also under consideration as part of a larger sustainable transport framework.

The township’s civic infrastructure is being addressed through structured short-, medium-, and long-term action plans. These include provisions for drinking water, steady electricity supply, solar-powered street lighting, road repairs, improved connectivity, renovation of old structures, and sanitation management.

During her interaction with students and residents, Tiwari received inputs on issues such as caste and residential certificates, and healthcare access. She assured that all concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
