Three Station House Officers (SHOs) of Bihar Police and a driver were killed in a road accident in Begusarai district in the early hours of Friday, officials said.

The officers were on their way back to Madhepura after attending an official training programme in Patna when their vehicle collided with a truck parked on the roadside in the Sahebpur Kamal police station area. The incident has left the police department in shock, particularly in Madhepura district, where all three officers were posted.

The deceased officers were identified as Sajan Kumar, SHO of Ratwara police station under the Udakishunganj subdivision, Amarendra Gyanendra, SHO of Arar police station, and Neeraj Kumar, SHO of Belari police station under the Madhepura subdivision. The driver of the vehicle also died in the crash.

According to preliminary information, the impact of the collision was severe, giving the occupants little chance to survive. Police said the exact sequence of events leading to the accident is yet to be established.

Officers were returning from Patna training programme

The accident occurred in Begusarai’s Sahebpur Kamal area while the officers were travelling back from Patna after attending an official training session.

Soon after the crash, police and administrative officials reached the spot and began an investigation. Senior officers from Madhepura also left for Begusarai to oversee further proceedings and coordinate with local authorities.

Investigation underway into cause of crash

Investigators are examining several aspects of the accident, including the position of the parked truck, road visibility and other factors that may have contributed to the collision.

Police officials said a detailed report is awaited, and the exact cause of the accident will become clear only after the investigation is completed.

The deaths of the three officers have sparked grief across the Bihar Police fraternity, with colleagues remembering them as committed officers who served in key policing roles in Madhepura district.
