The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested reitred judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of model-actress Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her matrimonial home on May 12.

Family members of Twisha had accused her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh of harassing their daughter over dowry, a charge both have denied.

The development comes hours after the Madhya Pradesh high court quashed the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh in connection with the case.

Giribala was granted interim bail by a Bhopal trial court on May 15, when the FIR was registered in the case.

Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh, who evaded arrest for nearly 10 days after his wife’s death, continues to remain in CBI custody.

The case was handed over to the CBI after Twisha’s family accused Bhopal police of trying to protect the accused.

The Supreme Court had also taken a suo motu cognisance of the matter and directed the state government to ensure a fair probe by the CBI.

On Tuesday, the CBI formally began its investigation and visited the residence of Samarth Singh, the main accused in the high-profile case.

The agency has re-registered the FIR that was originally filed at Katara Hills Police Station and taken charge of the case from the Bhopal Police.
