The holy city of Varanasi has been writing a new chapter of development since 2014 and has become a major centre for religious tourism. The Varanasi Municipal Corporation is making every possible effort for the development of Kashi.
On Tuesday, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari said that in the Municipal Corporation meeting held on Monday, Councillor Amresh Kumar raised an important issue regarding the increasing number of tourists.
He said that shopkeepers from Maidagin to Assi Ghat were arbitrarily charging exorbitant prices. The council agreed to make it mandatory for all food and beverage shops to display ‘rate boards’ (price lists) to address this problem.
In addition, a decision was also taken to seriously consider the construction of a government guesthouse with 400-500 rooms within a two-km radius of the Baba Vishwanath Temple, so that tourists do not have to sleep in the open.
Given the record increase in the number of tourists, special emphasis is being placed on ‘discipline’ and ‘infrastructure’.
Mayor Tiwari said that the Municipal Corporation is continuously working on various aspects to ensure that every devotee visiting Kashi does not face any kind of inconvenience. Providing facilities to tourists is being given top priority.
