Rare Earth manufacturing scheme, Pune Metro Phase-2, Railway projects: Key decisions of Union Cabinet


The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved Line 4 (Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug) under Phase-2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project.

The Cabinet also gave its nod to a Rs 7,280 crore scheme to promote manufacturing of rare earth magnets and approved two projects of the Ministry of Railways with total cost of approximately 2,781 crore.

Rare earth manufacturing scheme

A ‘Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets’ with a financial outlay of Rs 7,280 crore was approved by the Union Cabinet.

The initiative aims to establish 6,000 Metric Tons per Annum (MTPA) of integrated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) manufacturing in India.

Pune Phase 2 Metro

In another significant boost to the city’s public transport network, the Union Cabinet has approved Line 4 (Kharadi-Hadapsar-Swargate-Khadakwasla) and Line 4A (Nal Stop-Warje-Manik Baug) under Phase-2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project.

This is the second major project approved under Phase 2, following the sanction of Line 2A (Vanaz-Chandani Chowk) and Line 2B (Ramwadi-Wagholi/Vitthalwadi).

Railways projects

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved two projects of the Ministry of Railways with a total cost of Rs. 2,781 crore (approx.).

These projects include: Devbhumi Dwarka (Okha) – Kanalus Doubling – 141 kms Badlapur – Karjat 3rd and 4th line – 32 km. The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways.
