A man, accused of raping his minor daughter, committed suicide by hanging himself inside the lockup of a police station in the Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh.
Following the incident, the in-charge of the police station has been attached to the reserve line and a head constable has been suspended.
The incident occurred inside the Namli police station early on Thursday morning.
The 38-year-old accused father made a noose with the drawstring of his lowers and tied it from a pipe above in the lockup to hang himself.
He was locked up after his 16-year-old daughter lodged a case of rape against him after being booked under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections. Before committing suicide, the man had also submitted an application to the police alleging that his wife, daughter, and in-laws were harassing him. He had expressed the fear that they might frame him in a false case.
Following his suicide, the police took his wife and daughter into custody.
According to SP Amit Kumar, the police station in-charge Gayatri Soni has been line attached, and night duty Head Constable Narayan Jadaun has been suspended in connection with the suicide.
An inquiry has also been initiated in the entire matter.
