BJP State Media Incharge and senior MLA Randhir Sharma on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, calling its celebration of its three years in office in Mandi an event that exposed its internal collapse rather than showcasing governance achievements.
He said the remarks made from the stage by Congress leaders proved that the government was divided, unstable, and unable to provide relief to the public.
Sharma claimed that the most astonishing moment came when Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri publicly labelled his own chief minister “incompetent” and indecisive. This, he said, is unprecedented in Himachal Pradesh’s political history and reflected the erosion of the government’s administrative integrity.
According to him, the Congress “ship” was rocking from within, and the leadership no longer commanded authority or unity.
Adding to the embarrassment, the BJP leader said Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajni Patil praising Agnihotri as the “Man of the Match” only endorsed the damaging remarks made against the chief minister.
He said this signalled an open power struggle within the Congress government and sent confusing signals to the public.
Targeting the Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks directed at officials, Sharma said threats such as dealing with officers “in the dark of night” were deeply disturbing and amounted to an assault on the state’s democratic values.
He said Himachal has always maintained a dignified administrative culture, but the government was now using intimidation in place of development work.
Sharma questioned the very basis of the government’s celebration and listed what he called its three years of failures.
These included not fulfilling any of the guarantees made during the elections, discontinuing HIMCARE, shutting down Sahara, Shagun and Gani Suvidha schemes, stopping MLA Area Development Funds, halting progress on roads, schools and hospitals, and imposing repeated hikes in electricity and water tariffs. He also blamed the government for rising cement prices, stamp duty and fuel rates.
Calling the celebration in disaster-hit Mandi insensitive, Sharma said families still awaiting compensation were forced to watch the government hold a grand event in the same district.
He alleged arrangements for the rally were made using disaster relief funds. He termed it a betrayal of public trust.
Sharma also claimed that the rally lacked genuine public participation and was largely filled with government employees and departmental staff present under pressure.
He said people had seen through the “misrule and false promises” of the Congress government and would deliver a decisive mandate in 2027 to bring the BJP back to power with a full majority.
