The special CBI court in Panchkula held Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim guilty of sexual exploitation and criminal intimidation. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on August 28.
Trial court judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced the verdict.
Ram Rahim was taken into custody and later airlifted to Rohtak jail.

The case dates back to 2002 and two women followers of the sect had testified under Section 164 of the CrPC that they were repeatedly sexually exploited by Ram Rahim. They had also alleged that many others at the sect’s headquarters in Sirsa had also undergone the same trauma.
Meanwhile, soon after Rma Rahim was held guilty by the court, some of his followers went on a rampage and started damaging vehicles. Vehicles belonging to the TV news channels were among those which bore the brunt. There were reports that some journalists were injured in the violence.
