Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated the pilot project of the laser technology-based Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) on the International Border in Jammu.

Accompanied by Minister of State PMO Jitendera Singh and Border Security Force (BSF) DG KK Sharma, the Home Minister appreciated the Army, BSF, CRPF and J-K Police for effectively facing the challenge of terrorism in a coordinated manner.

The Home Minister said he dedicated the CIBMS pilot on the occasion of Bhagwan Vishwakarma Jayanti which also coincides with the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stressed that the success of the CIBMS would make the country’s borders safer as the physical patrolling even in harsh weather would be minimised and the stress among soldiers would also reduce.

He said that the CIBMS would also help effectively curb infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan as the present barbed wire fence at times gets damaged due to bad weather conditions.

He said that during his visit to Israel he had seen the effectiveness of the CIBMS. The entire borders running about 2030 kms would be secured with CIBMS if the pilot projects showed good results during its monitoring.

A stretch of 60 kms of Assam’s border with Bangladesh would also in November be provided CIBMS pilot project to stop illegal migration.

Rajnath also visited the forward areas to personally examine the smart fence that aims to plug infiltration through vulnerable patches. Effectiveness of the laser fence was demonstrated to him.

The CIBMS is expected to provide high-tech surveillance system that would even during fog or snow storm create an invisible laser barrier on land, water, air and also underground to help BSF detect and foil infiltration bids even in difficult terrains.

In a briefing to the media, the Home Minister had earlier today said that he was not very hopeful of Pakistan mending its ways even under the new regime of Imran Khan as it was continuing to push in terrorists and frequently targeting the civilian population as well as the Indian security forces on the IB and Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu-Kashmir.
