With a host of features, including a spacious air concourse with modern passenger amenities, ample parking facilities, and a solar plant, the redevelopment of Rajasthan’s Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is in the final stage.
The Ministry of Railways has launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for the redevelopment of stations.
The Indian Railways is expediting the redevelopment of Rajasthan’s Gandhinagar Jaipur station to ensure rail passengers have access to state-of-the-art and superior facilities.
Gandhinagar Jaipur, a suburban railway station in Jaipur, is being redeveloped with world-class amenities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with the station buildings being constructed to incorporate the local art of the ‘Pink City’, Jaipur.
Elaborating about the redevelopment works at Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station, Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Western Railway (NWR), while interacting with The Statesman said, “The redevelopment of Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station, is being carried out at a cost of approximately Rs 211 crore and the project is currently in its final phase, with all works at the finishing stage.”
“Construction of the main and secondary entrance buildings at the railway station has been completed, and finishing work is currently underway. The work on the 72-metre-wide air concourse has also been completed,” he said.
The railway official further said that the two new buildings have been constructed at the railway station.
A G+2 building with an area of 4,516 square metres has been built at the main entrance on the front side, he stated.
Eight lifts and four escalators will be installed at the railway station, and provisions have been made for facilities accessible to persons with disabilities.
A G+2 building, covering an area of 3,029 square metres, has been constructed at the station’s second entrance.
“A two-level basement spanning an area of over 7,000 square metres has been constructed at the entrance to provide ample parking for two-wheelers and four-wheelers,” he said.
Platform shelter facilities covering an area of 6,000 square metres are being provided at the station.
“An air-conditioned concourse has been constructed at the Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station, connecting the two buildings over the platforms,” Sudarshan informed.
The newly constructed air concourse covers an area of approximately 2,700 square metres and has a width of 72 metres.
“In this air concourse, passengers will have access to facilities such as a waiting room, a shopping complex, a cafeteria, and a game zone; this area will be open to the general public as well as passengers,” he said.
An area of approximately 2,200 square metres in the air concourse has been earmarked for commercial activities.
As part of the station redevelopment, green building-based facilities have been provided, incorporating features such as renewable energy integration, waste disposal systems, and rainwater harvesting.
“A solar power plant with a capacity of 1,376 kWp has been installed at the station,” he added.
The Indian Railways is undertaking numerous initiatives in Rajasthan to ensure a smooth and improved travel experience for passengers.
In the 2026-27 budget, a record-breaking Rs 10,228 crore has been allocated to Rajasthan for railway development—the highest amount ever.
The redevelopment of 85 stations in Rajasthan has been approved under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of over Rs 4,100 crore; out of these, the redevelopment work for 8 stations has been completed and made available to passengers.
