A triangular contest among BJP, Congress and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) awaits the by election in Sardarshahar Assembly seat in Rajasthan on Monday.

The Sardarshahar Constituency of Churu district in the state, fell vacant after the demise of Bhanwar Lal Sharma, 77 year old veteran Congress leader on October 9, 2022. Late Sharma represented this constituency for 7 times.

Congress has fielded Anil Sharma, the son of Late Bhanwarlal Sarma while BJP is contesting with Ashok Pincha, who lost the main assembly poll in 2018. Lalchand Muns is contesting with RLP ticket with a high voltage campaign.

RLP President and Lok Sabha MP from Nagaur Hanuman Beniwal, whose party has 3 MLAs in the present Assembly joined a massive campaign for the party candidate engaging chop per to hold 4 major poll rallies. The party, in fact, has been trying to woo the Jat voters to ensure victory of his party candidate.

Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, in his public meetings, has been trying to ensure the victory of the party candidate with a sympathy wave for Anil Sharma, who very recently, retired as the Chairman, Board of Rajasthan State Economically Backward Class.

The BJP has engaged 2 MPs and Union Ministers G S Shekhawat and Arjun Meghwal along with state unit President Satish Poonia, to woo the Hindu votes.

The main ruling party at the Centre also gathered no less strength after they inducted Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee member Jaideep Dudi.

The Congress had a tendency to give party tickets to the late MLA’s son or wife in the by election in the Sujangarh, Ballabgarh and Sahara assembly constituencies since 2018 when it came to power with Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister. Out of 8 assembly by elections, the Congress won 6 seats.

However, in Sardarshahar, the Congress has won 9 times, BJP 2 times in 1980 and 2008. The Janta Dal won 3 times and the Lok Dal won for a single term since 1951.

Altogether 2,89,843 voters are set to exercise their franchise from 8 in the morning will 5 pm on Monday. The results would be declared on December 8.
