The Rajasthan Police Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment examination 2021 has been cancelled in view of a large-scale paper leak. The Rajasthan High Court’s single bench of Justice Sameer Jain on Thursday declared null and void the examination and all related processes, including the selection of sub-inspectors.
Justice Jain had reserved the judgment after holding a prolonged hearing on the petitions filed by Kailash Chandra and others.
The judge pronounced the judgment in open court, negating even the recommendation of the state government that had opined against the cancellation of the exam. The government’s view against the cancellation was officially conveyed to the court.
In his judgment, Justice Jain held that the paper leak took place on a large scale at different levels. Six of the 8 erstwhile members of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) had knowledge of or were involved in the paper leak in one way or another. The RPSC is the exam-conducting body.
Besides this, many proxy candidates had managed to sit in the exam, and thirdly, the paper leak gang spread the details.
The court also took suo motu cognisance of the “involvement” of the then RPSC members in the paper leak and recommended referring the issue to a division bench for inquiry and trial.
The judge ordered that the vacancies on 859 posts that were filled through the tainted exam of 2021 would be added to the fresh around 1000 vacancies advertised for recruitment through exam recently by the RPSC.
The successful 859 candidates who were selected as SIs through the tainted 2021 exam would be eligible to apply afresh for the 2025 recruitment exam for a total of 1850 posts.
