The Rajasthan High Court has appointed two amicus curiae to examine the condition of buildings and infrastructure in government-run schools across the state and report their findings to the court.
A division bench comprising Justices Mahendra Kumar Goyal and Ashok Jain on Monday appointed Advocates SS Hora and Tanmoy Dhandh as amicus curiae during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL).
The PIL arose from the court’s suo motu cognizance of the Piplodi–Jhalawar school ceiling collapse.
The amicus curiae have been tasked with assisting the court in assessing the situation and suggesting measures for improvement.
Meanwhile, the state government sought additional time to submit its reply in the case. The bench granted an extension of one week, directing the government to file its response by August 25, 2025.
The tragic incident took place on July 25, when the ceiling of a government school in Piplodi village, Manohar Thana block of Jhalawar district, collapsed. Seven school children lost their lives and 27 others were injured.
