Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress, accusing its previous government of failing to curb the rise of “love jihad” cases in the state.
Addressing the national convention of urban cooperative banks here, Sharma mounted a strong attack on the Congress for its “calculated” opposition to the Anti-Conversion Bill, 2025, which was passed in the state assembly on Tuesday. He also strongly condemned the principal opposition party’s stance in the assembly earlier today.
“Pichhli sarkar ke samay jamkar love jihad hua; ab hamare samay mein aisa nahin chalega,” Sharma asserted, adding that under the previous regime, several gangs were involved in forced and illegal conversions.
“Our tribal brothers and sisters were either lured or forced into conversions, and ‘love jihad’ emerged as a serious problem,” he said.
The Chief Minister declared that the new law will effectively curb and prevent such incidents. “With the enactment of this legislation, our government has sent a strong message to those indulging in such activities — either stop or be prepared to face jail,” Sharma warned.
Taking a jibe at the Congress for creating ruckus in the assembly today, he added: “I can understand their restlessness. They still feel the pain of the Anti-Conversion Bill’s passage, which has left them politically embarrassed. This is because they have always thrived on appeasement politics and rampant corruption.”
