Raj Bhavan Renamed as Lok Bhavan in Jharkhand

Raj Bhavan, Jharkhand

The Governor’s Secretariat has issued an order officially renaming Raj Bhavan, Jharkhand, as Lok Bhavan. The notification, dated December 3, states that the change has been made following the approval of the Government of India conveyed through a Home Ministry letter issued on November 25.

The order, signed by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, notes that both the English and Hindi names of the Governor’s official residence will now reflect the new title. The directive takes immediate effect.

The communication instructs senior state officials and departments to update all records and ensure that the new nomenclature is used in official correspondence, public communication and administrative documents. Copies of the notification have been sent to key offices, including the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Chief Secretary, senior police and administrative officers, and the State Information and Public Relations Department.

The decision aligns Jharkhand with a broader symbolic shift in several states where traditional colonial-era names of institutions have been revisited. The notification emphasises that all references to Raj Bhavan should now be replaced with Lok Bhavan across government communication channels.

The Governor’s Secretariat has also asked departments to ensure that the updated name is reflected in print and digital publications without delay.
