Chhattisgarh is preparing to make a strong national statement in the world of ideas and culture with the Raipur Sahitya Utsav–2026, scheduled from January 23 to 25 at Purkhouti Muktangan in Nava Raipur. Conceived as a celebration of literature, thought, and creative expression, the three-day festival aims to highlight the state’s rich literary heritage while fostering dialogue with contemporary national voices.
With less than a week to go, district and state authorities have intensified preparations. Raipur Collector Dr Gaurav Singh and Public Relations Commissioner Dr. Ravi Mittal on Friday reviewed arrangements at the venue, directing officials to ensure that all facilities, ranging from session halls and the main stage to book stalls, food zones, drinking water, parking, and security, are completed well within time. Senior officials from the Culture Department, the Chhattisgarh Sahitya Akademi, and the organising committee were present during the inspection.
The festival’s central theme, “Aadi se Anaadi Tak”, reflects the continuous and evolving journey of Indian literature, from its ancient roots to its modern expressions. Officials said the Utsav has been designed not merely as a literary gathering, but as an inclusive cultural space that brings together writers, poets, journalists, thinkers, teachers, students, and general readers.
Over three days, Purkhouti Muktangan will host literary discussions, book releases, poetry readings, open forums, theatre, and cultural performances. A special emphasis has been placed on encouraging young voices. Creative works authored by schoolchildren from Raipur district will be released during the festival, while open-mic platforms will allow students and youth to present their poems, stories, and ideas. More than 4,000 registrations have already been received, indicating strong interest, particularly among younger participants.
A major attraction will be the book fair, featuring around 40 stalls from leading publishers across the country, offering readers direct access to a wide range of titles and opportunities to interact with authors. Cultural highlights include a staging of the play Chanakya, folk music and dance performances, and a Kavi Sammelan with renowned poets, blending literary reflection with Chhattisgarh’s vibrant cultural traditions.
To ensure maximum public participation, the administration has announced a free bus service for all three days of the festival. About 15 buses will operate on six major routes connecting Raipur with the venue in Nava Raipur, a move expected to benefit students, senior citizens, and literature enthusiasts. Detailed schedules will be released shortly.
By combining literature, culture, youth engagement, and accessible public participation, the Raipur Sahitya Utsav–2026 is being positioned as more than a festival. It is emerging as a platform to connect Chhattisgarh’s literary consciousness with the national dialogue, and to establish Nava Raipur as a new and vibrant destination on India’s cultural calendar.
