Intermittent rain in Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh has brought relief from high humidity but also disrupted daily life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy showers and thunderstorms in eastern UP on August 9 and elsewhere in the state on August 10.

According to the regional meteorological centre, Lucknow recorded over 6 cm of rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 8:30 PM on Thursday. While the southwest monsoon remained weak over western UP, it was reported normal in the eastern region.

The IMD reported light to moderate rainfall at scattered places throughout the state, with some parts in eastern UP experiencing heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

The weather office said that Lucknow is likely to experience overcast skies, strong winds, intermittent rain, and occasional thunder on Friday.

Considering the forecast, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for eastern and western UP on August 8 and 11, warning of heavy rain at isolated places.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s intense rainfall in the state capital led to massive traffic disruptions. Several areas in Lucknow experienced prolonged traffic jams due to waterlogging on key roads.

Traffic remained gridlocked well into the evening in major localities, including Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Polytechnic Crossing, Kamta Crossing, Alambagh, and Shaheed Path, where heavy waterlogging brought vehicular movement to a standstill.

Emergency services were also affected. In parts of Gomti Nagar and near Lohia Path, ambulances were seen stuck in traffic, sirens blaring, unable to move through the congested roads.

Police personnel struggled to manage the chaotic traffic situation, working through the evening to restore order and assist stranded commuters.
