A major legal battle is expected in Prayagraj after the North Central Railway issued a notice for the demolition of a mosque near gate number one of the railway station.
According to sources here on Tuesday, the notice states that the mosque has been built on railway land and that major modifications to the railway station are in the pipeline. It adds that the mosque must be vacated to facilitate its demolition.
Through the notice, the mosque authorities have been asked to vacate the premises by April 24. The notice has been sent to the mutawalli of the mosque.
People associated with the mosque said it was constructed before independence and falls under the Waqf. They added that they are preparing to move the Allahabad High Court against the railway notice.
