Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said that New Delhi Railway Station is already serving passengers with enhanced amenities, including additional ticket counters, automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs), RO drinking water, and separate toilets for men, women, and Divyangjans.

To ensure safer and more comfortable travel during peak hours, the Ministry of Railways is equipping 76 stations across India with modern facilities, including dedicated passenger holding areas. These areas are designed to decongest platforms and provide organised spaces with seating, drinking water, toilets, ticketing services, information displays, and security checks.

The Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that a holding area at New Delhi Railway Station has already been commissioned. It includes facilities such as additional ticket counters, ATVMs, public address systems, electronic train information boards, CCTV surveillance, luggage scanners, door frame metal detectors (DFMDs), uninterrupted power supply, improved lighting, HVLS fans, fire-fighting and lightning protection systems, RO drinking water, and separate sanitation facilities.

To manage heavy passenger rush more effectively, the Railways is also installing a large number of AI-enabled CCTV cameras across stations and adjoining areas for improved monitoring and crowd management.

Similar upgrades at other stations are currently at various stages of planning and execution, with timelines subject to optimisation.

Meanwhile, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 13 railway stations across Delhi are being redeveloped. Structural works have already been completed at stations such as Safdarjung, Bijwasan, Delhi Cantt, and New Delhi.

The Minister further noted that 1,338 stations have been identified nationwide for development under the scheme, including 13 in Delhi—Adarshnagar Delhi, Anand Vihar, Bijwasan, Delhi, Delhi Cantt, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Delhi Shahdara, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Narela, New Delhi, Sabzi Mandi, Safdarjung, and Tilak Bridge.
