’70-year-old as new voter, 80 in one room, and the same voter in 3 states’: Rahul shares ‘criminal evidence’ of 2024 poll rigging

Days after alleging irregularities in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress MP and leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday released what he described as “criminal evidence” to back his claim.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi gave a detailed presentation, citing the example of Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency, where the BJP defeated the Congress by a margin of 32,707 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

He pointed out, “The BJP secured 6,58,915 votes, winning with a margin of 32,707.” However, in the Mahadevapura assembly segment, he claimed that the Congress received 1,15,586 votes, whereas the BJP garnered 2,29,632 votes. ”The Congress won all the Vidhan Sabhas except this one, where the BJP swept and secured a margin of 1,14,046 votes. This seat significantly contributed to their election win, and the Lok Sabha result went in their favour,” he said.

“Our internal polls indicated that we were expected to win 16 seats in Karnataka. However, we won 9. We, then focused on the 7 unexpected losses and chose Mahadevapura, a Vidhan Sabha constituency. All the data we have here is from the 2024 elections, sourced from the Election Commission,” he alleged.

He claimed that upon examining the details, the Congress party discovered that approximately 1,00,250 votes were “stolen” out of 6,50,000 total votes in the Mahadevapura assembly segment.

The Congress MP alleged that the votes were stolen in five ways: duplicate voters, fake and invalid addresses, bulk voters registered at single addresses, invalid photos, and misuse of Form 6.

Duplicate voters

Rahul claimed that the Congress party identified 11,965 duplicate voters in Mahadevapura. Citing the Special Summary Revision roll dated April 4, 2024, he showed how one voter named Gurkirat Singh Dang appeared in four different booths.

In another example, he alleged that a person with the same EPIC ID was registered in three states — two votes in Mahadevapura, one in Mumbai, and one in Lucknow. Another person, he claimed, had the same EPIC ID and was registered in both Mahadevapura and Varanasi.

Fake and invalid addresses

Rahul claimed that the addresses of 40,009 voters in the electoral rolls were fake. In one screen grab he shared, the voter’s address was listed as “0”. In several other cases, he alleged, the addresses were unverifiable.

Bulk voters in single addresses

He alleged that the Election Commission of India had registered bulk voters at a single address. In one such instance, he alleged 80 voters were listed at a single address. Upon verification, it was found to be a small room. Sharing the photo of that room and the list of 80 voters who were registered at that address, the Congress leader asked, “How can so many people live in just one room?”

In another such case, 46 voters were registered in another single-room home. The number of such voters, according to the Congress MP, was 10,452.

Rahul also cited another example, where 68 voters were registered at a commercial establishment – in this case, a brewery. “Can 68 people really live in a brewery?” he asked, calling it “PM Voter Awas Yojna.”

Invalid photos

Rahul Gandhi claimed that photos of 4,132 voters in the rolls were invalid — either indistinguishable or micro-sized — making their identification difficult.

Misuse of Form 6

In another major allegation, the Congress lawmaker accused the Election Commission of allowing the misuse of Form 6, meant for enrolling first-time voters. He claimed that 33,692 voters registered using Form 6 were not first-time voters.

Citing the example of one Shakun Rani, a 70-year-old woman who was registered twice within two months using the Form 6, Rahul shared a marked electoral roll, alleging that she voted twice in Mahadevapura during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul alleged that several other voters enrolled under Form 6 were the 80—90 years age and the Form 6 was weaponised.

“We have criminal evidence, but the Election Commission is engaged in destroying evidence across the country. The Election Commission is colluding with the BJP and helping them,” he alleged.
