Rahul Gandhi slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh with a hard-hitting tweet in which he drew attention to the alleged rape of a young woman by a BJP MLA.

Writing in Hindi, the Congress president also took a jibe at the Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

Beti bachao, khud mare jao (save your daughter, die yourself),” wrote Gandhi referring to the death of the father of the woman allegedly in police custody.

“A woman accuses a BJP MLA of rape. Instead of arresting the MLA, the police arrest the father of the woman. Immediately afterwards, the father dies in police custody,” wrote Gandhi.

“The accused BJP legislator is still roaming free,” the 47-year-old Congress chief wrote referring to the MLA from Bangermau, Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
