Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has stressed the significance of education in shaping the future of a nation. Gandhi, who has been on a four-nation tour of South America, recently visited Peru and Chile, where he met with students, artists, and political leaders. During his interactions with young minds, Gandhi said, “I’ve always believed that education is the foundation of freedom; it cannot be a privilege reserved for a few,” he said.

“India needs education that is high-quality yet accessible to all – which nurtures a scientific temper, encourages critical thinking, and reflects the rich diversity of our people.”

Gandhi’s visit to South America aimed to foster deeper political, diplomatic, and commercial ties between India and the countries in the region. He met with the Senate President of Colombia and launched a parliamentary friendship group with Peru to promote cooperation between the nations. “From the vibrant streets in Colombia’s comunas and the classrooms of the University of Medellin, to the heartfelt conversations with students in Lima, Peru, this journey through South America has been filled with warmth, joy, and ideas,” said the Indian Overseas Congress in a post on X.

During his visit, Gandhi also praised Indian companies that have successfully expanded their presence in South America. He commended Bajaj, Hero, and TVS for their innovative approaches, saying, “Proud to see Bajaj, Hero & TVS do so well in Colombia. Shows Indian companies can win with innovation, not cronyism. Great job.” Gandhi’s remarks highlighted the importance of innovation and fair competition in driving growth and development.

Gandhi’s visit is marked with an emphasis on the need for democratic values and accessible education, resonating with the youth and inspiring a new generation of leaders.
