Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Left Front, asserting that it will disappear after the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.
Addressing an election rally in Alappuzha, Rahul Gandhi predicted a significant shift in the political landscape. He claimed that the Left Front would vanish after the elections and alleged that the LDF is being driven by “invisible hands of communalism.”
“Frankly, there is nothing ‘Left’ about the Left Front, and after the elections, there will be nothing ‘left’ of the Left Front,” he said.
He further alleged that the invisible hand of communalism is guiding the Left and claimed there is a BJP–CPM nexus in Kerala.
Rahul Gandhi argued that the current Left in Kerala is no longer truly “Left,” stating that it has moved away from its core ideology and has “surrendered” to the influence of the BJP and communal forces.
“Most leaders in the Left Front are opportunistic. Some will do anything to come to power. They don’t care whether they are being helped by the BJP or the RSS. Then there are leaders and workers who have spent years committed to an ideology and now feel betrayed, let down, and deeply hurt by what is happening to their party,” he said.
Referring to former CPM leader G. Sudhakaran, who shared the stage with him, Rahul Gandhi said his presence signalled a deeper shift within the CPM-led LDF. Sudhakaran is contesting as an Independent from Ambalapuzha with UDF backing.
“We have a senior Left leader on the stage. There is a reason he is sitting here. It is not that he has suddenly changed his thinking. People who spend many years in a political organisation absorb its values. He is not here out of opportunism. He is here because something fundamental has happened to the LDF,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He reiterated his charge of a tacit understanding between the BJP and the LDF, and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of avoiding the Sabarimala issue during the campaign.
Targeting Modi, Rahul Gandhi said the Prime Minister frequently speaks about religion and temples elsewhere but remained silent on alleged issues related to Sabarimala Temple in Kerala.
“The gold at Sabarimala was looted and replaced with copper. The Prime Minister did not say anything about this when he came to Kerala. This is to help the Chief Minister of Kerala and the LDF,” he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi also reflected on his political struggle against the BJP and the RSS, stating that despite facing multiple cases and interrogations, he never “backed down.”
“I fight the BJP. I fight the RSS. I have 38 cases against me. They took away my house. They took away my Lok Sabha membership. I am out on bail. They interrogated me for 55 hours, but I never backed down. The Prime Minister attacks Congress every single time. Why does he not attack the Chief Minister? Why does he not attack his family?” he said.
