Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday condemned the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s move to block the film ‘Jana Nayagan,’ describing it as an assault on Tamil culture. Posting on handle X, Gandhi stated, “The I&B Ministry’s attempt to block ‘Jana Nayagan’ is an attack on Tamil culture. Mr Modi, you will never succeed in silencing the voice of the Tamil people.”
The Ministry had reportedly taken steps to withhold clearance for the film, citing issues related to certification and content guidelines. Additionally, it requested YouTube to remove the film’s trailer, pointing to certain scenes considered objectionable.
Gandhi’s comments come amid continuing tensions between the central government and Tamil Nadu state authorities on various matters. His statement is viewed as a gesture of support for the Tamil community and a defence of their cultural identity.
