Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday urged the Kerala government to conduct an immediate, time-bound, and public audit of all school infrastructures in the state following the tragic death of 13-year-old Mithun Manu.

Mithun died due to electrocution from a sagging power line within a school compound in Kollam.

“It pains me deeply that another precious life – 13 year-old Mithun Manu – has been lost to electrocution from a sagging power line within a school compound in Kollam,” Gandhi said in a post on handle X.

“I urge the Kerala Government to immediately undertake a time-bound, public audit and upgradation of all school infrastructure in the state and fix responsibility for this tragedy,” said, sharing his appeal on handle X.

“No parent should have to endure such unimaginable loss. Every child has the right to a safe learning environment,” he said.

Gandhi’s appeal comes after a similar incident over a year ago where a young girl died due to a snakebite inside her classroom in Wayanad. He had then written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging a comprehensive infrastructure audit of schools.
