Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Friday levelled serious allegations against the Maharashtra government, accusing it of illicitly selling government land reserved for Dalits at a fraction of its value.
He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on the issue.
“In Maharashtra, government land worth Rs 1,800 crore, reserved for Dalits, was sold to a minister’s son’s company for just Rs 300 crore. On top of that, the stamp duty was waived — this is not only a robbery but a legal stamp of approval on the theft,” Gandhi said in a post on social media platform X.
He condemned the government, calling it “land theft” carried out by a regime born from “vote theft.” Gandhi accused the ruling party of repeatedly looting public resources and yet relying on stolen votes to return to power.
“No regard for democracy, nor for the public, nor for the rights of Dalits,” he asserted.
Targeting Modi, the Congress leader questioned, “Modi ji, your silence speaks volumes. Are you staying silent because your government is propped up by those very looters who usurp the rights of Dalits and the deprived?”
The allegations have intensified scrutiny on land deals and governance in Maharashtra, reigniting public debate about political accountability and the protection of marginalized communities’ rights.
