Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is not letting go of any opportunity to take a dig at his opponents in the Karnataka assembly elections 2018. In a tweet posted early on Friday, the 69-year-old CM of the poll-bound state took a dig at both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular).

While sharing a news report in which former prime minister and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda compliments Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oratory skills, Siddaramaiah reiterated the Congress charge that the BJP and JD(S) have a tacit understanding.

“This is turning out to be quite a Mutual Admiration Club!,” he wrote.

“They praise each other & then the gentlemen protest any suggestion of partnership,” said Siddaramaiah referring to PM Modi’s praise of Deve Gowda at a rally in Karnataka on 1 May.

“After a collaborative seat selection the flip-flops & U Turns don’t confuse the voters. This is a Congress vs BJP+JDS contest,” alleged Siddaramaiah.

PM Modi had on Tuesday chastised Congress president Rahul Gandhi for “insulting” the 84-year-old Deve Gowda.

Addressing BJP supporters in coastal district of Udupi, PM Modi said, “The disrespect shown towards Shri Deve Gowda ji by Congress leaders and the Congress president around 15-20 days ago is not acceptable. If such is their mindset, how can they think good for people of Karnataka?”

“We have had political differences with Deve Gowda Ji but there is no denying that he is among India’s most respected leaders,” said the PM in praise of the leader whose party is one of the three contesting the Karnataka elections.

“The language Congress leaders have used for Deve Gowda-ji is shocking. This shows their (Congress’) arrogance,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi had called Deve Gowda’s party a “B-team” of the BJP.

In an interview published by a The Times of India on Friday, Deve Gowda hailed Modi as a “sharper” orator than former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Deve Gowda had on Wednesday claimed that it was Modi who persuaded him to remain in the Lok Sabha even after he had announced the decision to resign if the BJP came to power on its own.

Deve Gowda has, however, refuted Congress claims of the “understanding”. He also said that though the PM listened to his concerns about farmers, he did not act.

On Thursday, at a rally in Bengaluru (north), the PM asked the people not to waste their votes on the JD(S).

“JD(S) stands at third place and people should not waste their vote on them,” he reportedly said.
