The atmosphere in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly heated up on Thursday when Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Ragini Sonkar questioned Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ on investment and the Defense Corridor.
Ragini Sonkar’s first question was that MoUs worth lakhs of crores of rupees have been signed in the state, but why are only 9 per cent of the projects visible on the ground? Her second question was regarding the Defense Corridor. She asked why there has been zero progress in districts like Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Aligarh, and Agra.
In her third question, she commented on the BJP’s funds, asking how the party’s funds, which were ₹800 crore in 2014, have now grown to ₹16,000 crore, despite the economy being reported weak.
In response to Ragini’s questions, Minister Nand Gopal Gupta stood up and began reading her questions. The Speaker interrupted him. The minister then began referring to the SP government’s tenure, targeting the Opposition.
During the debate, the minister even mentioned Ragini Sonkar’s social media activities, including Instagram and Facebook reels, to which the opposition objected.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna had to intervene to control the situation amid the growing uproar in the House. Only then could the proceedings proceed. This incident once again led to heated arguments between the ruling and opposition parties in the House.
