Punjab Police conducted raids at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today in connection with the Majitha police station attack case, over allegations that he was part of a group that allegedly stormed a police station in an attempt to free a detainee from custody.

The action comes days after a dramatic confrontation unfolded inside Majitha police station, where police claimed an armed mob forcefully entered the premises, threatened officers, searched multiple rooms, and attempted to take away an accused identified as Jobanpreet during interrogation.

Alleged bid to free detainee

According to Punjab Police, the incident took place on May 30 after Jobanpreet was formally arrested in connection with another case registered at Majitha police station.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Rural Sohail Mir said the accused was being questioned when a large crowd gathered outside the police station around 11:30 am. He alleged that the mob forcibly entered the premises as part of a “pre-planned conspiracy” aimed at freeing the detainee.

The SSP claimed the group moved through different sections of the police station, entered the interrogation area, and threatened officials present there.

Police also alleged that members of the gathering carried weapons, damaged official case-related documents and forcibly took Jobanpreet out of police custody during the chaos.

SSP Sohail Mir said senior officers, including the SHO and DSP, intervened and managed to regain control of the situation before returning the detainee to the lockup.

He stated that despite repeated attempts by officers to calm the situation, members of the crowd allegedly continued trying to pull the accused away from the police team.

Bikram Majithia named in FIR

Punjab Police confirmed that a criminal case has been registered in connection with the incident and six individuals have been named as accused so far.

SSP Sohail Mir said Bikram Singh Majithia was also part of the unlawful gathering that allegedly assembled outside the police station during the incident.

Police teams have launched raids at multiple locations to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the confrontation.

Search operation underway

Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the role of additional individuals who were allegedly present during the incident.

The SSP stated that more names could be added to the case as police continue examining evidence, questioning witnesses and analysing footage linked to the attack on the police station.
