In a major breakthrough in the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, the Punjab Police has dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of four accused and the recovery of seven sophisticated pistols, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Samarbir Singh alias Simar (21), a resident of Mahindra Colony in Amritsar; Satnam Singh alias Satta (23), a native of Fatehpur village in Tarn Taran and currently residing in Krishna Nagar, Amritsar; Tanupreet Singh (26), a resident of Pratap Nagar; and Karanjot Singh alias Sajan (26), a resident of Krishna Nagar.

The recovered weapons include two 9mm Glock pistols made in Austria, four .30 bore pistols made in China, and one additional .30 bore pistol.

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. Illegal arms consignments were delivered across the border using drones and subsequently distributed to criminal elements through local associates.

He added that further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages of the network and to identify other individuals involved.

Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on specific intelligence, police teams first arrested Samarbir Singh alias Simar and recovered two Glock pistols from his possession.

Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of his associates—Satnam alias Satta, Tanupreet Singh, and Karanjot alias Sajan. Based on their disclosures, five additional pistols were recovered, he said.

The CP further revealed that Satnam Singh alias Satta is already involved in a previous case related to the recovery of a commercial quantity of heroin, in which 8 kg of heroin was seized. He added that Satnam and Karanjot, who reside in the same locality, were working together under the directions of a Pakistan-based handler.

Investigations have also revealed that all four accused are educated and had previously worked as salesmen in a private firm. They were known to each other and lived in nearby localities.

A case (FIR No. 70 dated April 30, 2026) has been registered under Sections 25 (1-A, 6, 7, 8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar.
