In a major breakthrough during the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police have busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by foreign-based handlers Maninder Billa and Manu Agwan.
Three members of the module, involved in grenade attacks on police posts in Badshahpur (Patiala) and Ajimgarh (Haryana), have been arrested, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Sunday.
The operation was jointly carried out by Counter Intelligence (CI) Patiala and the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sandeep Singh alias Deepu, a resident of Badshahpur in Patiala; Harpreet Singh alias Jagga, a resident of Harchandpura in Patiala; and Harmanpreet Singh alias Preet, a resident of Gurdialpura in Patiala.
This development follows grenade attacks reported at the Police Post in Badshahpur on April 1, 2025, and at the Police Post in Ajimgarh, Haryana, on April 6, 2025. After the incidents, BKI operatives—Happy Passia, Manu Agwan, and Gopi Nawasherian—had claimed responsibility through social media.
“With the successful busting of this module, Punjab Police has solved both grenade attack cases targeting police establishments,” said the DGP, adding that the handlers were acting under the direction of terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda.
DGP Yadav said the module received both logistical and financial support. Preliminary investigations also suggest that the group was planning further attacks on police establishments in Punjab. Further investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward linkages.
Sharing additional details, AIG, CI, Patiala Dr Simrat Kaur said that during interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that both attacks were masterminded by their associate Gurpreet Singh alias Babbu, who is currently in police custody while lodged in Patiala Jail.
She further revealed that Babbu had promised Sandeep Singh alias Deepu ₹3–4 lakh for participating in the Badshahpur attack. Harmanpreet Singh alias Preet was paid ₹10,000 for assisting in the Ajimgarh attack.
The AIG added that further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
A case (FIR No. 11 dated 19/07/2025) has been registered under Sections 25(1)(B) and 61(2) of the Arms Act at Police Station SSOC, SAS Nagar. Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the Explosive Substances Act have also been added subsequently.
