In a major intelligence-led operation carried out under the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur has busted a cross-border drug cartel with the arrest of one operative and the recovery of 5 kg of heroin from his possession.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Tuesday that the arrested accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, a resident of village Habib Wala in Ferozepur.

Apart from recovering 5 kg of heroin, police teams have also impounded his Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle (registration number PB-05-AU-0504), which he was riding at the time of arrest.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate the consignment was smuggled from across the border by Pakistan-based smugglers. Further investigations are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages to unravel the entire network, he added.

Sharing operational details, AIG CI Ferozepur Gursewak Singh Brar said acting on reliable inputs, a CI Ferozepur team conducted a covert operation in the Ferozepur area, during which the suspect, Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, was apprehended from the link road near Basti Khushal Singh Wala in village Hassan Dhut, Ferozepur.

The AIG added that the arrested accused was on his way to deliver the consignment to a local smuggler on the directions of a Pakistan-based handler. The identities and roles of both the local smuggler and the Pakistan-based operator, along with their broader network, are under comprehensive investigation.

In this regard, FIR No. 17 dated 28-10-2025 has been registered under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
