Punjab BJP switches district chiefs to prime ground game for polls

The Punjab wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday completely reshuffled its district leadership, bringing in a fresh lineup of presidents to jumpstart its grassroots campaign ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections.

Approved by the party’s national vice-president Nitin Nabin, state unit chief Kewal Singh Dhillon announced the changes as part of a tactical push to clean up the party’s local machinery. Insiders say the move is meant to shake up the ranks right from the booth level up and fix the party’s public outreach across Punjab.

Dhillon pointed out that the new district heads must act as the primary link between voters and the party. Their main job will be expanding the organization’s footprint and making sure central welfare programs actually land on the ground effectively. Backing his new team, the state chief said their collective field experience and discipline are exactly what the party needs to navigate the tough electoral battles ahead.

The updated roster splits the responsibilities between new faces and familiar hands. In the crucial Majha region, Kanwar Bir Singh takes over Amritsar Rural-2 (Majitha), while Salil Kapoor gets the nod for the Amritsar Urban wing. Down in the Malwa belt, Narendra Garg Neeta takes over the Barnala unit, while Gaurav Kakkar holds onto his spot as the Faridkot district president.

Jalandhar’s leadership got a total makeover. Ashok Sareen Hicky will now run the Jalandhar Urban front, while the rural territory has been split between Manmeet Singh Vicky for Rural North and Jagbir Singh Brar for Rural South.

Elsewhere, Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj takes over the Fazilka pocket. Hoshiarpur has been divided between Yogesh Sapra for Rural and Satish Thakur Bawa for Urban. The remaining slots went to Chetan Suri in Kapurthala, Sunil Maudgil in Ludhiana Urban, Satish Asija in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Ajay Veer Singh Lalpura in Rupnagar, Matinder Singh in Sangrur-1, and Satnam Singh Bhullar in Tarn Taran.

The call to keep Kakkar in Faridkot went down well with the local cadre, with senior leaders noting that keeping the same face in place will help lock in the organizational progress the party made recently.

Welcoming the new team, Dhillon made it clear that the BJP is strictly focused on building a hyper-active, disciplined, and people-first structure across Punjab. He warned the incoming chiefs to hit the ground running and get the party apparatus fully geared up for the incoming organizational drives and high-stakes poll battles.
