Punjab: 911 arrested on 173rd day of anti-gangster drive; 69 drug smugglers held in crackdown

As its decisive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign entered its 173rd day on Saturday, the Punjab Police conducted 1,074 raids at identified and mapped locations linked to gangster associates across the state.

According to official information, the statewide campaign to make Punjab gangster-free was launched by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been carrying out special operations across the state.

On the 173rd day of the campaign, the police arrested 911 individuals and seized six weapons, bringing the total number of arrests to 47,685 since the campaign began.

In addition, preventive action was taken against 510 persons, while 19 proclaimed offenders (POs) were also arrested during the operation.

The Punjab Police appealed to the public to anonymously share information about wanted criminals and gangsters, and to provide tips on crime and criminal activities, through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.

Meanwhile, the police also continued their anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh,’ for the 498th consecutive day. During the day’s operation, 69 drug smugglers were arrested, and police recovered 829 grams of heroin, 565 intoxicant tablets and ₹5,250 in suspected drug money from their possession.

With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended under the campaign has reached 73,505 in 498 days. As part of its de-addiction initiative, the Punjab Police also persuaded 13 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Saturday.
