Protests erupt following cancellation of nomination of Congress’s Rajya Sabha candidate

Meenakshi Natarajan

Opposing the rejection of nomination of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh Meenakshi Natrajan, scores of Youth Congress activists staged a protest in Bhopal late Tuesday evening and burnt the effigies of state Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and MP Legislative Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.

The Youth Congress workers gathered outside the MP Congress Headquarters and raised slogans against the BJP alleging high-handed behaviour and undue pressure by the ruling party in the decision by the Returning Officer to cancel Natarajan’s nomination.

Meanwhile, at a hurriedly convened press conference at the Congress State Headquarters, MP Congress Chief Jitu Patwari announced that all Congress MLAs, leaders and workers would observe a day-long hunger strike in front of the Election Commission Office in Bhopal on Wednesday.

Patwari argued that there was absolutely no basis for the rejection of Natarajan’s nomination.

On the other hand, reacting to the development, MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav asserted that the truth, which the Congress tried to hide, came out in the open today. He accused the Congress parrty of always indulging in politics of lies and conceit.

Echoing the same sentiments, MP BJP Chief Hemant Khandelwal accused the Congress party of trying to deliberately mislead the people and the election authorities.

Khandelwal went a step further, alleging that this was a mistake deliberately carried out by the Congress leadership.
