Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse a mob blocking traffic on Jaipur-Agra Highway and indulging in stone pelting in protest against the killing of a youth in the Jamdoli area here on Monday.

Meanwhile, two of the nine accused detained by the police in the murder case were injured in a bid to flee. While the prime accused in the murder case – Anas Mohammad – sustained bullet injury during a scuffle with the cops, another accused, Shabad Khan, fractured his leg.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejaswini Gautam, quoting the FIR registered in the murder case at the Jamdoli police station, said eight assailants stormed in a slum of the Jamdoli locality along the Jaipur-Agra Highway late last night on three bikes. One of them, Anas Mohammad, repeatedly stabbed Vipin, 14 times.

The gruesome killing evoked instant protest by the locals, who gathered on the spot along the Jaipur-Agra Highway this morning, blocking traffic on, damaging properties of some nearby shops and pelted stones. They also clashed with the police personnel on duty while forcing closure of shops in the area.

Despite the police using force to disperse them, the protesters remained unrelenting and made repeated attempts at blocking the traffic until some understanding evolved over their demands.

DCP Gautam said four of the accused were nabbed in the morning while the prime accused, Anas Mohammad, a history sheeter, was arrested later. While being escorted by the cops to the police station, he snatched the revolver of an escorting officer and tried to run away. When the cops tried to overpower him misfired, hitting his ankle area. Another accused, Shabad, sustained a fracture in his leg. Both the injured accused are being treated at a hospital.

The situation has been brought under control, but tension prevailed in the area. The family of the deceased and locals continued their dharna into the evening.

The motive behind the killing is stated to be old enmity. The accused, reportedly a habitual criminal, wrote on social media, “Ab Badla Pura Huwa. (Now, the revenge has been taken). However, later, the post was deleted, police sources and locals said.

Meanwhile, leaders of Sri Karni Sena and political leaders rushed to the spot, persuading the mob to maintain peace and assured all help in delivering justice to the victim’s family.

The protesters were demanding speedy trial for the accused, a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the kin of the victim and government job to one of his family members. Besides parents, Vipin had the responsibility of five sisters –two of them unmarried – and a younger brother.

The protestors are also demanding suspension of the SHO of the Jamdoli police station for his alleged failure to take action on a complaint lodged by Vipin and his family against Anas two days ago.
