AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for ordering the closure of meat shops and slaughter houses on Independence Day, terming the move as “callous” and “unconstitutional”.
Taking to X, he said, “Many municipal corporations across India seemed to have ordered that slaughterhouses and meat shops should be closed on 15th August. Unfortunately, GHMC has also made a similar order. This is callous and unconstitutional. What’s the connection between eating meat and celebrating independence day? 99% of Telangana’s people eat meat. These meat bans violate people’s right to liberty, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition & religion.”

Meanwhile, sharing his media interaction on Fatehpur Maqbara alleged attack, he trained guns at BJP stating that attack in presence of police showed “how much BJP hated Muslim”.
While talking to media persons outside Parliament, he said, “The attack on the mausoleum in the presence of police is proof of how much the BJP government hates Muslims. My conversation with the media on the Fatehpur issue.”
Earlier in the day, tensions flared in Abu Nagar after members of Hindu organizations, including the Bajrang Dal, gathered near an old tomb they claimed was a temple. Some individuals allegedly entered the protected site, under the Archaeological Department, vandalizing parts of the structure and demanding to offer prayers.

Owaisi’s comments came amid a series of municipal directives ordering the closure of meat shops and slaughterhouses during upcoming festivals. On Tuesday, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra announced a ban on animal slaughter and meat sales within city limits on August 15 and 20.
The August 15 closure coincides with Gokul Ashtami, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, while August 20 marks the start of Paryushan Parva, a major Jain festival observed with fasting and prayers. The civic body warned of strict action for violations. Similar orders have been issued by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in Thane district for August 15, and by the Malegaon Municipal Corporation.
