As the country’s GDP continues to drop, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launches attack on the government over the state of economy. The General Secretary of Indian National Congress said the government should now admit that there is a “historic slowdown” and move towards resolving it.

She said the slowdown was for everyone to see and asked till when will the government run by “managing headlines.”

“Telling a lie a hundred times does not turn it into truth. The BJP government should accept that there is a historic slowdown in the economy and they should move towards taking measures to resolve it,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.

In her tweets, Priyanka mentioned how the Rupee is losing its strength and there are no signs of GDP growth amid rising unemployment in the country. In her recent tweet she went on to say, “a lie does not become a truth by repeating it hundred times. BJP government should accept that there is a historical slowdown in the economy and they should move on to find its solution. Everybody is aware of the slowdown. How long will the government manage headlines?”

Priyanka’s critical comments come after former prime minister and renowned economist Manmohan Singh warned the government of serious financial repercussions if it did not reach out to sane voices to curb ‘man-made crisis.’

Singh said “all-round mismanagement” by the Modi government was responsible for the slowdown. “The state of the economy today is deeply worrying. The last quarter’s GDP growth rate of 5 per cent signals that we are in the midst of a prolonged slowdown. India has the potential to grow at a much faster rate but all-round mismanagement by the Modi government has resulted in this slow down,” he said in a statement.

Sharp deceleration in manufacturing output and subdued farm sector activity pulled down India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth to over six-year low of 5 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2019-20.
