Congress General Secretary  Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today alleged that under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, the issue of farmers interest was only limited to advertisements and billboards.

Her recent criticism came over a media report that a farmer’s son committed suicide in UP’s Saharanpur over alleged harassment by the electricity department and the police.

“The issue of farmers’ interest under the Uttar Pradesh BJP (government) has been limited only to advertisements and billboards,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.

“The farmers are not getting their dues. They do not get proper electricity supply, but their electricity bills have been hiked. They have been cheated in the name of the loan waiver. And they are also being insulted,” the Congress leader alleged.

Priyanka Gandhi had earlier lashed out at the Government over the economic slowdown and the continued depression in the Indian automobile industry.

Tweeting in Hindi, Priyanka asked, “The economy is falling into a deep abyss of recession. A sword is hanging on the livelihood of millions of Indians. The decline in the auto sector is a sign of negative growth in production-transportation and the declining confidence of the market. When will the government open its eyes?”

As the country’s GDP continues to drop, Gandhi launched attack on the government over the state of economy. The General Secretary of Indian National Congress said the government should now admit that there is a “historic slowdown” and move towards resolving it.

She said the slowdown was for everyone to see and asked till when will the government run by “managing headlines.”

“Telling a lie a hundred times does not turn it into truth. The BJP government should accept that there is a historic slowdown in the economy and they should move towards taking measures to resolve it,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.
