Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari on Wednesday sat on a dharna on the road with many other Congress leaders and workers in the Singrauli district of the state after the police stopped a 12-member investigation team of the party visiting the Baasi Berdahaa area to verify allegations of large-scale unauthorised tree felling to enable the setting up of a coal mining block of the Adani Group.
The Congress leaders took out a march raising slogans along the way. The party’s investigation team was expecting to reach the Baas Berdahaa area on Wednesday to verify the facts regarding massive afforestation activities there.
A heavy police force was deployed on the road to stop the Congress leaders and workers from moving forward. The Congress leaders exchanged heated exchange with police officials. Subsequently, Jitu Patwari and other leaders and workers sat on a dharna on the road.
The Congress has alleged that the massive tree felling is being carried out illegally to pave the way for Adani Group’s coal mining block.
Last week, during the MP State Assembly’s winter session at Bhopal, the Congress had raised the issue and even staged a walkout over the matter, alleging that the Mohan Yadav led BJP state government is allowing the illegal felling of more than 6000 trees to facilitate the Adani Group.
