President Ram Nath Kovind greeted the nation on the occasion of Vijaya Dashmi on Saturday.

Kovind said in a tweet that it is “A celebration of victory of good over evil.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his greetings with the nation on the occasion of the festival.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also extended the greeting to nation on Twitter, saying “Best wishes to all of you on the occasion of Vijaya Dashmi. Happy Dussehra.”

Vijaya Dashmi, also called Dussehra, marks the culmination of the 10-day long Navratri festival. It is a major Hindu festival celebrated differently in parts of India. In northeastern and eastern regions of India, Vijaya Dashmi marks the end of  Durga Puja, in which Goddess Durga is worshipped.

In northern and southern part of Indian subcontinent, the festival is synonymously called Dussehra. It is also believed to be the day when Lord Ram defeated Ravana, and is celebrated as a festival of victory of good over evil.
