Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Vijay Ghat on Tuesday to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 114th birth anniversary.

The Prime Minister also visited the Raj Ghat earlier to pay tributes to Mahatama Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.

In a tweet, PM Modi said former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri “epitomised strength and simplicity.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also visited Vijay Ghat to pay his tributes to the former PM. He appreciated the role of former PM “In shaping of the Green Revolution”

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu called former PM “great son of our soil” and tweeted and attached photos from Vijay Ghat.

Congress President, Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to Lal Bahaur Shastri on his 114th birth anniversary.

Taking to Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also remembered the country’s second Prime Minister.

Former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on October 2, 1904. He breathed his last on January 11, 1966 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan due to cardiac arrest.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was the first person who was posthumously awarded with Bharat Ratna in 1966.
