President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated weightlifter Sathish Kumar Sivalingam for his Gold Medal winning performance at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Sivalingam lifted a total of 317 kg which included 144 kg in snatch and 173 kg in clean and jerk to bring home to Gold in the men’s 77 kg event in Gold Coast on Saturday.

“Weightlifters continue to make us proud on Day 3 at #GC2018. Congratulations to Sathish Kumar Sivalingam for bagging the Gold in Men’s 77 kg,” wrote the President on his official Twitter handle.

This is Sivalingam’s second consecutive Gold at the Commonwealth Games. He had previously won the yellow metal with a stupendous performance at the Glasgow Games four years ago.

England’s Jack Oliver took silver with a total of 312 kg while Francois Etoundi ensured bronze for hosts Australia with 305.

This was India’s third gold medal at this year’s CWG. Women weightlifters Mirabai Chanu (48kg) and Sanjita Chanu (53kg) had won their respective events in the first couple of days.
